Lymphedema Short-Stretch Compression Bandaging Consult
Lymphedema Short-Stretch Compression Bandaging Consult- 30 minutes
Our Short-Stretch Compression Bandaging Consultation provides specialized care for individuals managing lymphedema or chronic swelling. During your visit, a certified therapist will:
-
Perform a detailed assessment of skin integrity, swelling, and limb size
- Prior medical history, current skin care routine, fluid, and fibrosis management will be reviewed.
Why Short-Stretch Bandaging Is Important for Lymphedema
Short-stretch compression bandaging is a cornerstone of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). It’s different from standard elastic bandages because it has very little stretch and provides a unique pressure profile:
-
High working pressure, low resting pressure → The bandages gently compress at rest, but when you move or contract your muscles, they create a pumping effect that helps move lymph fluid out of the swollen area.
-
Reduces swelling safely → Helps decongest the limb and soften hardened tissue (fibrosis).
-
Prepares for garments → Brings the limb to its smallest, most stable size before fitting into a medical compression garment.
-
Protects skin & comfort → Supports fragile skin and reduces the risk of further swelling or cellulitis infection.
-
Follow up appointments will be set after the initial consultation based on the assessment and plan of care decided on between the patient and the therapist. ***Please note: At the end of the consult, a compression plan will involve the purchasing of materials to bring to the following treatment appointments. These will range from anywhere from $50-$200 dollars depending on treatment plan.
