Therapeutic Modalities in Lymphatic Drainage Services

Under prior evaluation and recommendation by your therapist, therapeutic modalities may be combined with lymphatic drainage services to maximize outcomes.

Lymphatic drainage sessions may incorporate a variety of gentle, non-invasive techniques to support circulation, fluid reduction, healing, and overall wellness. Each modality is tailored to the client’s needs and treatment goals.

1. Gua Sha / Dry Brushing for Lymphatic Flow

Gua sha and dry brushing use gentle strokes along the skin to stimulate circulation and enhance lymphatic drainage. These methods help reduce puffiness, encourage detoxification, and leave the skin feeling refreshed. Gua sha uses a smooth stone tool, while dry brushing employs a natural bristle brush to lightly exfoliate and activate the lymphatic system.

2. Compression Therapy

Medical-grade compression garments or wraps maintain fluid reduction, prevent re-accumulation, and support tissue health following manual lymphatic drainage.

3. Myofascial Release & Gentle Tissue Mobilization

Targeted soft tissue techniques release restrictions, improve comfort, and enhance lymphatic flow in areas affected by scar tissue, fibrosis, or tightness.

4. Kinesio Taping (Lymphatic Taping)

Special elastic tape is applied in patterns that gently lift the skin, promoting lymph drainage and reducing localized swelling or bruising.

5. Negative Pressure (Cupping for Lymphatics)

Gentle cupping may be used to stimulate superficial lymph flow, soften tissue adhesions, and enhance circulation when appropriate.

6. Cold or Contrast Therapy

Alternating warm and cool applications reduce inflammation, ease discomfort, and stimulate lymphatic and vascular activity.

7. Breathing & Movement Techniques

Diaphragmatic breathing, stretching, and light movement naturally activate the lymphatic system, supporting long-term drainage and wellness.

8. Red Light Therapy (RLT / Photobiomodulation)

Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared (NIR) light to improve circulation, stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce swelling and pain, and promote tissue repair. RLT is a non-invasive, complementary approach to support lymphedema management and post-surgical recovery.
